DT

Autumn 1 Feedback

What went well last year?

  • Getting to use building blocks to make a structure
  • Getting to make things that move
  • Getting to make moving vehicles and getting to use them
  • Getting to make sandwiches that we could eat
  • Getting to bake our own bread
  • Getting to design and built our own bridges

How could DT be better?

  • If we got to do DT more often
  • Having more opportunities to cross stitch in textiles projects
  • Less writing and more time making
  • Being able to draw more as a way to plan

DT is fun when . . .

  • We get to work on projects
  • We can work collaboratively
  • We can use computing to support our projects
  • We get to work with different materials
  • We can show our projects and share our learning
  • We get to draw as a way to plan and design
  • We get to eat

Autumn 2 Feedback

All children knew what DT was and KS2 could tell me what DT stands for. Children were eager to share that they enjoyed DT and liked the lessons they can recall.  Children had the most knowledge linked to their food and nutrition and structures units but found it difficult to name the area of DT.

WWW:

  • We like getting to prepare for things by finding out about the existing products (especially tasting examples)
  • We love that when we make something, we get to actually use it.
  • We love getting to cook something and getting to eat our own creations.
  • We love getting to explore different skills, such as different fonts that we can use on a project.
  • We like getting to make our own designs and getting to follow our designs through to create our product.
  • We like getting to draw our designs, rather than write them

EBI:

  • We would like to have more time to explore in DT.

The children were enthusiastic about everything they do in DT and the only thing that they could articulate to make it better is that they wished they could do more.

Spring 1 Feedback

We focused on four key questions. These were the children’s responses:

My favourite thing about DT at All Saints’ is . . .

  • Y1 – We learn new stuff and our food looked yummy.
  • Y2 – We loved designing and making our puppets.
  • Y3 – Making pop up books was fun and using different mechanisms.
  • Y4 – Designing the green houses to meet what was needed and then getting to make them.
  • Y5 – Being able to make the crumble, we got to do all of the steps ourselves, including cutting.
  • Y6 – Being able to be creative with our own sewing patterns.

I know when I am doing well in DT because . . .

  • Y1 – We can see that we get better.
  • Y2 – Our designs work.
  • Y3 – We use evaluations to assess how well we have done.
  • Y4 – If it did not break at the end.
  • Y5 – Our final product worked and our teacher complimented when we did the skills right.
  • Y6 – Our teachers praised us.

In DT, I have learnt . . .

  • Y1 – We learnt how important it is to wash fruit and how to peel.
  • Y2 – We learnt how to follow our design and about running stitch and over stitch.
  • Y3 – We learnt how to use different mechanisms like a pop up.
  • Y4 – We learnt that it is important to take time with what we are making.
  • Y5 – We learnt how to follow design, how to peel and chop fruit.
  • Y6 – We learnt how to use different types of stitches such as running stitch, cross stitch, and how to follow different types of patterns.

DT would be even better if . . .

  • Y1 – If we got to make more food.
  • Y2 – If we had more time to make more products. We wish there were more lessons.
  • Y3 – If we got to make more food products.
  • Y4 – If we could do it more often and make more structures.
  • Y5 – If we got to challenge ourselves with more difficult recipes.
  • Y6 – If did it more often and if we got to make bigger products. We also want to cook more.
